The Bookkeeping Companion started as a personal project. It became something bigger when we realized we weren't alone.
This platform started in a real kitchen, in a real home. My wife is an active bookkeeper. She works with QuickBooks® every day. And like a lot of people who learn QuickBooks, she got there the hard way — piecing together YouTube videos, scrolling through Intuit help docs, and figuring things out one frustrating session at a time.
One day I asked her a simple question. "If you could go back to when you were learning QuickBooks, what would you want?" Her answer was just as simple. "Something that made me practice. Not just watch."
That's how this began. A learning app I built for her. Practice questions. Flashcards. Realistic scenarios pulled from situations she'd actually encountered. A way to test what you know, not just consume content.
It worked. She used it. It helped. And then we thought: if it helped her, it'll help others.
Most QuickBooks courses give you videos and hope you remember them. We give you a complete learning system.
The videos are an addition to the asset. The system is what gets you where you want to go.
This is for people at the very beginning of their bookkeeping journey. If any of these sound like you, you're in the right place:
We meet you at square one and build from there. If you're an experienced bookkeeper looking for advanced or specialized training, this isn't that — yet. We start at the beginning, on purpose.
Bookkeeping is learnable. You don't need to be good at math. You don't need a finance degree. If you can sort socks into piles by color, you can do this.
Practice beats consumption. Watching videos feels productive. It rarely is. Actually doing the work — answering questions, working through scenarios, making mistakes and learning from them — is where understanding lives.
Software is just a tool. Understanding what's happening underneath the software is what actually matters. We teach the concepts first, then we show you the buttons.
